Initial Crews Announced for Australian Boat Race 2023

As the Australian Boat Race makes the much-anticipated return to Melbourne this year, the University is pleased to announce the initial squads for the 2023 event.

The annual competition between Australia’s two oldest universities – Sydney and Melbourne – has a history going back over 160 years. On Saturday 14 October, the race is back in the waters of the Yarra river for the first time since 2019.

World Rowing Under 23 Championships bronze medallist Sara De Uray will be looking to continue her successful run in 2023, after being named the recipient of the John Hall Rowing Scholarship for the year, when she competes in the ABR for Melbourne. Melbourne, who lead Sydney in the Women’s race trophy tally 8-4, will be further bolstered by the presence of national champion and senior Australian team rower Eliza Gaffney.

The Men’s team will be led by the experienced Jopling Family Rowing Scholarship awardee Fraser Miscamble, who was part of the silver medal-winning Australian Men’s Four team at the 2023 World Rowing Under 23 Championships.

Melbourne supporters are invited to cheer on the crews. Pre-register for a supporter pack including a University cap on the day.
